Target is close too which provided a few minutes of interesting people watching. KCLT CHARLOTTE/DOUGLAS INTL CHARLOTTE NC Food -- Mr. G's 'Home of the Chicken Fillet Sandwich'. 1 minute north of Wilson Air Center FBO on Airport Drive at the Charlotte Airport. Great spot for Netjet or Corporate Pilot in a hurry on a layover. http://maps.google.com/places/us/nc/charlotte/morris-field-dr/5027/-mr-g's?gl=us Food -- Yorkmont Cafe on Yorkmont Rd is near Wilson Air and only takes about 3-5 min to get to. Popular lunch place for the local industries. Meat and 3 type of place. Nothing to write home about but ok. If I had more time might venture further though. KCPC COLUMBUS COUNTY MUNI WHITEVILLE NC Food -- our place. good ole country breakfast. KGSO PIEDMONT TRIAD INTL GREENSBORO NC Food -- MiMi's Cafe 3322 W Friendly Ave has a great breakfast. Everything looked good on the menu and even has a healthy choice on the back of the menu - if you make it past the other good stuff. - pp but could do less without the OJ and coffee... Crew car from Atlantic and about 10 min drive. Food -- Get the crew car and directions to Carolina's Diner for breakfast... Great food and cheap prices. Misc -- There is a gun range right near the airport http://www.calibers.net/ Misc -- I guess you could get a tan on top of the building on the lookout over Atlantic FBO. Enter it from the steps outside over the garden. Get some vitamin D while you wait. You could tell your friends that you spent the day in St Thomas and they wouldn't know that you were really only in the triangle! KHKY HICKORY REGIONAL HICKORY NC Food -- Froggy Pete's.. restaurant at the airport premises. Bfast and lunch - open until 3p. Pretty good food and reasonable prices. Sports -- Spa Athletic Club.. 3.0 miles from the airport. guest fee . Friendly staff and decent euipment for a good workout. 2 hour limit on crew car so plenty of time to get a workout done. KILM WILMINGTON INTL WILMINGTON NC Food -- If you want to get that $ 100 Hamburger you should head over to PT's Grill. There are several in Wilmington and close to the airport for all the bored pilots that want to grab a bite to eat and waste some time instead of hanging out at the FBO. There is one that is across from the university of wilmington on college rd that has great bites and sites in the summer time ;) you can't find that true 100 dollar hamburger any more but this one is worth more. I think they just won a contest for best burger in town too. Food -- I've lived here a long time but finally got around to going to Dock Street Oyster Bar in downtown Wilmington. It was great! I saw some great items other other people's tables that I will get next time too. 12 Dock Street, Wilmington, NC - (910) 762-2827. Walking distance from the Hilton Riverfront where I think the NetJet crews stay. if driving parking on street or in parking deck Food -- Indochine...I hope I spelled that right!!! Best Vietnamese/Asian food anywhere. Plan flight here for the food alone!!!!!! Food -- For a Great Lunch try Hieronymos Seafood Bar & Grill, 5035 Market Street 2.4 miles from the Airport. Misc -- stop into Aero Services if you fly in. Great FBO Misc -- Seahawks baseball is hot this year, stumbled in after a quick dinner at "hamburger joes". A bored line or desk agent will ride you there for minimal tip and a smile... Historic -- USS North Carolina Battleship is located just across the bridge. You can spend a couple of hours here just walking through and reading the signs of the historic ship. www.battleshipnc.com pp ( Mil) 365 days a year. In the summer time they show old movies on the bow just like they did during military service. Sports -- There is a nice golds gym about 10 min. from airport open 24 hrs. Easy to get to. 10 dollars for a guest pass or free if you are already a member of golds from another state with your travel pass. There # 910-392-3999. Food -- As a local I have to say that Elizabeth's Pizza is close and good. Italian food. About 5 min from either FBO by crew car. Beach is 15-20min and downtown riverfront is 10Min with shops and food. www.elizabethspizzawilmington.com KINT SMITH REYNOLDS WINSTON SALEM NC Food -- Bell Brothers Cafeteria -- good ol home cooking right by the airport on liberty st. Food -- Pig pickin barbeque. 10 min. from airport. Great food. KJQF CONCORD REGIONAL CONCORD NC Food -- Concord Mills Mall really close with a good variety of food close. Several crew cars available. KLBT LUMBERTON MUNI LUMBERTON NC Food -- Fullers is a good southern buffet sit down place about 10-15min drive from airport. And they have a crew car KMRH MICHAEL J. SMITH FIELD BEAUFORT NC Misc -- You can take a water taxi from downtown waterfront over to Shackleford Banks island. It cost bucks per person round trip and they will come pick you up when you want. Bring everything you want though cause there is nothing over there but sand and Wild Horses. KNCA NEW RIVER MCAS JACKSONVILLE NC Food -- Head south for all things. Wilmington is south about 45 min. on Hwy 17. Run away from Jacksonville. KRDU RALEIGH-DURHAM INTL RALEIGH NC FBOs -- I had a couple of hours to kill here in RDU. I forgot about the general aviation terminal. It has a great pilots lounge that is unused (which is an understatement). It is a great place for flight crew members to relax. The snooze room in the pilot crew area is probably the best I have ever seen and looks like a nice hotel. The general aviation terminal is located directly between Tac Air and Landmark FBO and is a classic example of extreme waste of tax payer dollars. There is a restaurant on the second floor that is more than adequate for a quick bite. As a corporate pilot I wouldn't say I enjoy sitting in an FBO but the extra GA terminal does give a second option if your wait turns out to be longer than expected (never happens right?). Food -- Angus Barn!! Outstanding, make your captain pay, its pricey. Some hotels give rides. Food -- Carolina Ale House. Located nearby the airport in the Brier Creek area. Lots of TV's perfect for games etc. Great food too. |
