KAMN GRATIOT COMMUNITY ALMA MI Historic -- This is my home airport, Ask Luke to see in the hangers as there is some warbirds that live there and a couple of T6's. In the Summer a Coursair lives there too. There is also a Geocache on the feild. They do have a crew car and he can point you too good places to eat. If your overnight there is a casino 20 minutes to the north of town. KAZO KALAMAZOO COUNTY KALAMAZOO MI Historic -- Exit Duncan and go about 800 yards south to the Air Zoo. Pricey but well worth seeing once, especially the SR-71 Blackbird Sports -- Airway Lanes bowling alley is directly across the road from the FBO. The have bowling, go carts, mini golf, ect. -JMBA KFNT BISHOP INTERNATIONAL FLINT MI Misc -- Mall-a decent sized mall is close to the airport & seems to be a good place to get in an indoor walk in the winter months (directions from CSR); KGLR OTSEGO COUNTY GAYLORD MI Food -- Great restuarant on Old 27 south of town called Bennethum's. Awesome food, and great microbrew beers on tap. KGRR GERALD R. FORD GRAND RAPIDS MI Food -- There is a micro brewery to visit on 28th st, not far from airport and hotels KLAN CAPITAL CITY LANSING MI Food -- if it's breakfast time, check out Sawyer's Gourmet Pancake House. http://sawyersgourmetpancakehouse.com/ you'll have to take a crew car, but it's not far from the airport. They serve lunch too. All local. Food -- Wish I had more time to spend here. Looks like a great college town. We only had time to make it down to the mall on W. Saginaw Hwy - 10 min from FBO. Good food in that area. Next time I want to make it over the campus... GO SPARTANS KMOP MOUNT PLEASANT MUNI MOUNT PLEASANT MI Misc -- Car available. Collage town lots of food. There is a casino too and they will pick you up and drop off they have a hotel too. If you are an outdoors or gun person the "Jays" is a MUST. Its a 20 minute drive to the north. It is the size of a Kmart all outdoor stuff, greta place. KPLN PELLSTON REG'L/EMMET CNTY PELLSTON MI Food -- good eats in the terminal KPTK OAKLAND-PONTIAC PONTIAC MI Misc -- crew car is a jag Misc -- Went geocaching. A couple within two miles of Michigan Aviation FBO. Walking sure beats sitting! Of course it was about 74 degrees out. Nice people at Michigan Aviation. 5/09 Food -- Thai Food 10 minutes down the road, good tasting and cheaply priced. Pentastar has menu and crew car. Food -- Good food at the lunch counter at Pentastar Aviation (which is also a very nice FBO) KTVC CHERRY CAPITAL TRAVERSE CITY MI Food -- For good Mexican food, go to the Red Mesa Grill. Their salsa is the best. Wash it down with a local micro-brew. Restaurant is only a 5 minute drive from the FBO - if you get stopped at the lights. Misc -- Top of the Park is a great Martini bar / Cougar hangout. Try the Chocolate shakes at House of Dogs across from Bootleggers. Best Restaurant in town hands down is Phils on Front. Misc -- FBO has Bicycles that you can use instead of the crew car. There are paved bike paths from the airport to downtown or the lake and its only about a 12 min ride. We exercised and kept our medical while getting lunch. Plenty of food downtown. We ate at Brewpub. If the weather is nice... take the bike. Food -- Great food at North Peak, Apache Trout Grill,Scotts Harbour Grill, Bubba's. Catering:Burritts, Folgarellis, Grand Traverse Pie Company and Mary's Kitchen Port. Good Bars downtown:Dillingers, Bootleggers, Union Street, Kilkennys (basement of Northpeak) and Northpeak. Hotels to be in: Holiday inn downtown or Parkplace (both within walking distance from bars and restuarants. KYIP WILLOW RUN DETROIT MI Food -- HAAB's in downtown Ypsilanti is good. Food -- Go back in history by eating at the Bomber on Main St in Ypsilanti. Place was made famous as it fed Willow Run B-24 plant personel throughout the WWII period. Misc -- Ate at the Red Apple. Good Home cooking and cheap too. Food -- Just ate at bombers resturant downtown YIP. Great greasy spoon. Been on Food channel. |
